Just put us out of our misery and cancel the darn season already. It is where it is heading anyway.

"We will fight even if it could potentially hurt us moving forward."

then the player you spoke to is a (frank)ing idiot. funny how they don't like Bettman because he fights for the owners and he's smug. yet i'm sure they love their agents. i can't even listen to anything these guys say anymore. it's depressing.

Many fans have had enough of the constant whining from those millionaires.

I am not a fan of Steve Simmons but he nailed it on this one.

Hey. At least Ek is trying something pro-active here. A word that both sides could benefit from adhering to.

Good luck I say!

I know I am hoping they just canel it. The older players will have to retire the free agents will need to go on welfare and the millionairs will go play in Europe and play for peanuts because they dont want to take a roll back but will throw away a whole season to do so.

The owners just need to break the union. These stoppages every 5 years are killing the game. Lock them out for as long as it takes, break the union, and start over.

A few lost seasons in exchange for ending this garbage? I'll take that deal.

And then the owners will still make a boat load of money with their big business and just pay a little less corp tax this year.

EK, remember when the Islanders moved and you barely paid any attention to it.... instead of talking about facts and what IS going on and making news, lets make up scenarios that will never be presented at the NHL talks...GREAT idea!!!

The greed in this league is breathtaking. These players should be well paid, they are the elite at what they do, but now the average Joe can't afford to take a family of 4 to a game, and the majority of seats are corporately owned.

I really hope they cancel the season, both sides lose a ton of money, NBC cancels their TV agreement, and the league has to contract some loser teams because of the loss of so many previously loyal fans.

The season was doomed the day the NHLPA hired Fehr. He loves the squabbles and the lockout/strike stuff.

He is the biggest problem here.

And that is going to work better than it did in 2004 when the owners held out for a year, got everything they were looking for (cap and a significant roll back) and broke the union.

And here we are again with more teams losing money than before the last lock out - how is that planning working out?

We will keep doing this over and over again until the League fixes its real problems -- 6 or 7 teams that cannot keep up financially with the top revenue generating teams that are driving up the salary floor.

No matter how far they roll back salaries, we will be back in the same situation at the end of every CBA.

Three choices:

create a league made up of Peewee players who will work for free juice boxes (even then the Coyotes might be in trouble)

get rid of the salary floor or widen the gap between cap and floor rhough a luxury tax or something

get rid of a few bottom feeder teams through some combination of relocation and contraction

so Ek... perhaps you are finally coming to the realization... begrudgingly that Bettman and his type... including Fehr are the problem.... he's arrogant because he believes in a position to dictate... when in fact he's nothing but the owners messenger boy.. and he's lowsy at it.

once again... there's one common thread in the NHL stoppages to date... I'll let you fill in the blanks.

move the league offices out of New York - and no I don't mean to Philadelphia
give GaryB ownership of the Phoenix Coyotes (they'll move in a week to Hamilton and Basillie will be his new best friend)
put someone the commissioners chair who understands the players, not the agents
and ask an honest person (meaning not GaryB) to answer to question as to what is included in Hockey related revenue
